TV stars Aashka Goradia and Brent Goble, who reside at
Malad's Agarwal Trinity Tower, were in for a shock on Saturday when they learnt
that their neighbour, former hockey player Appayya Chenanda (52) was no more.
According to a TOI report, while the police allege that
Chenanda’s wife Amita (45) stabbed him seven times to death following a
dispute, Amita claims that he stabbed her twice in the stomach before killing
himself.
The couple has a daughter and a son who were not at home
when the incident occurred. At the moment, Aashka is looking after Chenandas's
children.
The incident goes thus. The Chenanda family has been
living on the 27th floor of Malad's Agarwal Trinity Tower for five years now.
Aashka’s domestic help first heard Amita scream for help around 1.15 pm. Once
he reached the 27th floor, he found Amita lying in the common passage. On
seeing this he got her to the door and rushed to get help.
According to Aashka, who was out at the time, her
domestic help begged security persons on the ground floor to call the police
and a doctor, but nobody helped him. On her (Aashka) request, another
neighbour, Rekha Fernandes, went into Amita's house to help her and found her
lying on the living room floor. Her husband was on the bed in side, lying
sideways, with the mattress soaked in blood.
Soon after, Aashka and Brent arrived with other
neighbours. The women carried Amita, gave her water and medical attention.
Neighbours also shot a video clip of what she had to say. Amita told them she
and her husband were having a good time when he suddenly got up and attacked
her twice in the abdomen with a knife. When she escaped, he stabbed himself,
she added. Amita also scribbled a will on a piece of paper which said her
property was to be given to her kids, and read it aloud.
“We called the police helpline 100 and other emergency
numbers like 101 and 103, but none of the numbers were getting connected.
Finally, we summoned a private ambulance and rushed Amita to hospital,” a
resident told Times Of India. The cops arrived at 3 pm. Six people, including
Goble, lifted Appayya onto a stretcher after wrapping him in bedsheets, and
brought the body downstairs. The couple's 15-year-old daughter and 21-year-old
son are reportedly traumatized since the incident.
Police further said that Amita is currently hospitalised
after suffering a cut on her thigh and will be arrested post discharge. It was
Appayya's second marriage.
